How it works

Three steps to a take you can send

1

Set up

Choose your format — Voice Acting, audiobook, commercial — pick your mic, and you're ready.

Loudness Target picker — Commercial VO, Voice Acting, Film Dialogue, ADR/Dubbing, Podcast, Audiobook (ACX)
2

Perform

Press record and do your thing. A simple meter glows green the moment your read lands in the sweet spot.

3

Deliver

Hand off clean, labelled files — Raw or Conformed, with markers and timecode — however the session needs them.

Raw vs conformed

From raw take to ready-to-send

Same take, same performance. Flip the switch — or drag — to see your raw recording become conformed to Voice Acting, levelled and on spec. Engineers keep both: grab the conformed file, or the raw.

Take_009 raw — uneven levels with hot peaks pushing into orange and red
Take_009 conformed to Voice Acting — even, steady levels in the target range
Raw — peaks over and under target

Why the Recorder

Upstream of the DAW, not instead of it

A DAW is built for the mix — not the capture. The Recorder lives one step upstream: zero setup, the right defaults already dialled in, and the same non-destructive safety you trust — applied at the moment of performance, not after the fact.

Zero setup, sensible defaults

No session to configure, no sample rate to second-guess, no plugin chain to build. Open a tab and the right defaults are already in place — so talent records instead of troubleshooting.

Non-destructive, moved upstream

The safety of non-destructive editing, applied where it matters most: at capture. Pick the target once and record honestly — the original is always kept, and conforming never overwrites it.

Takes that enrich the DAW

Exports can carry their markers and comments along, so the session lands in your DAW already annotated — not a bare file someone has to decode.

Built to move

Studio-grade capture that travels — real mobility and accessibility for self-taping, from a booth, a hotel room, or the kitchen table.

Pick the target once, record honestly, watch your audio get conformed to your format levels — without painting your downstream collaborators into a corner.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is Source Elements Recorder and how does it work?
Source Elements Recorder is a browser-based voice recorder built for one job — making the self-capture of a voice performance quick, easy, and professional. It launches instantly in any modern browser on any device. Performers simply open a tab, select their microphone, and press record to capture studio-grade audio without needing a complex software setup.
Who should use Source Elements Recorder?
Recorder is designed for voice actors, audiobook narrators, podcasters, and remote actors who need to submit professional, spec-conformed audio quickly — and for the engineers receiving their takes, who get every handoff raw and conformed, labelled, with markers, comments, and timecode. Because it eliminates loudness bias by matching industry-established loudness targets (like ACX or Voice Acting) in one click, it ensures performers compete on the quality of their read, not their decibels.
Is Source Elements Recorder a DAW replacement?
No. Source Elements Recorder is not a DAW, an editor, or a mixer, and it operates strictly upstream of your DAW. It is built exclusively to streamline the capture and handoff of a voice performance. It does not compress, EQ, or colour your sound — your voice stays your voice, allowing you to focus entirely on the read instead of fighting the overbearing complexity of a tool built for hundreds of other workflows.
Which devices can I use the Recorder on?
Desktop browsers, for now. We want the Recorder to work everywhere, but it is an evolving picture. At the time of writing, desktop is the only environment we have fully validated. We have not blocked mobile — we can see it being usable — though with the range of devices out there, we cannot promise everyone a flawless experience. We have gone to great lengths to make the software fall back gracefully for the broadest possible support. For the full experience, we recommend a desktop browser.
Is there a manual or documentation for the Recorder?
Yes and no. The help button inside the Recorder is living documentation of everything you can touch: click the ? and hover over any button or area of the app to learn more about it. We'll keep adding documentation and tutorials to our channels — follow us to stay up to date.
Is my data being used for AI training?

Your data continues to belong to you, and our dedication lies in acquiring your explicit consent for any utilization beyond your immediate communication requirements.

Source Elements does not use voice-over or any kind of music or audio recordings submitted to our platform to train, develop, or improve any artificial intelligence or machine learning models. Your audio and performances remain yours — we won't use them to teach AI systems to replicate or synthesize voices or music or any kind of audio.
